Hola!YANA has been such an amazing place to grow and it has helped me find new directions.  YOU CAN FIND ME AT WWW.ILOVEPLAYTHERAPY.COM IF YOU ARE LOOKING  TO BECOME A NEW CLIENT. I have always had a passion for connecting with and helping others.I am an LPC (Licensed Professional Counselor) in the State of South Carolina. My road to becoming a therapist has been quite a journey, but I couldn’t imagine myself doing anything else or loving what I do more. My education includes a Masters degree in Professional Counseling from Liberty University and a Bachelor’s degree in Social Psychology from Park University. I am currently pursuing PhD in Developmental Psychology.I have a National Certification in Trauma Focused CBT, and I am currently rostered through MUSC (Medical University of South Carolina). I also hold a certification in Triple p (Positive Parenting Program, Level 4) and I am a National Registered Play Therapist  and working on my Play Therapy Supervision certification. I have been trained in  Theraplay  (Attachment based family play therapy) which I use with children with Reactive Attachment Disorder or any other attachment issues.  My years of experience in the field have provided me with the opportunity to work with people of all ages, genders, religions, ethnicity, races, and sexual orientations. I have experience working in client’s homes, medical setting, outpatient treatment centers and in nonprofit organizations. I am especially interested in continuing to continue to work in the area of attachment and parenting and with children and adolescents and their families.

It is my goal to enhance personal empowerment and growth among all of my patients, and I am committed to enhancing that in the Hispanic/Latino population in South Carolina. In the last years, I have dedicated time to support undocumented residents on their path to legal residency and citizenship in this country and completed dozens of immigration psychological evaluations. I am a Trauma-Informed Clinical Counselor who is passionate to work with Hispanics and other diverse cultures, races, communities, and disenfranchised populations. I have also integrated immigration evaluations into my business model. Psychological trauma is my clinical specialty and my passion. This knowledge and love for trauma has become my superpower, especially when completing psychological evaluations. Trauma can change our psyches and our behaviors as we attempt to survive and protect ourselves from any future potential trauma.  I am a supporter of immigrants' rights, truly invested in assisting them with their psychological needs.

Tylette Newkirk, LPC, LPC-S, CACI, MAC.

Greetings! When pain enters our lives, it can be powerful and disheartening. This oftentimes causes us to isolate ourselves from others. I believe that healing is rooted in connection. My hope is that clients find their strengths and inner resources in order to improve their overall quality of life. Everyone deserves a fresh start. I work hard to provide a safe, therapeutic environment for my clients so they can start their personal, meaningful journey.  During my years providing treatment, I encountered numerous individuals, families, and couples.  I worked with my clients' mood disorders, trauma, addictions, relationship issues, anger management,self-esteem, and women’s issues. I also specialize in treating alcohol and other drug issues as a Certified & Master Addictions Counselor.

As a rostered TF-CBT therapist, I help adolescents, ages 4-18 address negative symptoms of traumatic events.. I am also rostered as a facilitator for Prepare & Enrich which focuses on premarital & marital counseling. I live by the motto, "if your dreams don't scare you, they're not big enough".

Being a co-founder and counselor at YANA has certainly been a pleasure. I learned so much from building our practice from the ground up with my amazing partners, Tylette Sumter and Narumi Amador.

As we are dissolving our practice on the best of terms, I want you to know about the work I’m doing in addition to caring for our clients here at YANA. I wrote books about how to address the pain of emotional trauma as it relates to Daddy Issues. I’m leading groups based on my books, speaking regularly about mental health and wellness, among other exciting things. I’m excited to use my skill sets to reach women who are questioning their self-worth, dealing with abandonment, rejection, etc. as they engage in unhealthy relationships. Want to know more? I am currently taking new clients. Since it is during a transition, here are a few FAQs:

-The only insurance I accept is Blue Cross and Blue Shield Plans (BCBS)

-Any client ready to begin services will be considered self-pay, unless they have BCBS, meaning cash is due at each visit (I am currently honoring our rate of $150 for the first session and $120 for each follow up session)

-I am primarily treating adults; mostly women ages 25 and up

-I do not treat children; however, I am connected with great therapists who are! I can help with a referral

-I do not treat alcohol and/or drug issues as a primary reason for therapy, but can make a referral. This ensures that if you need more support, you can receive that without having to begin with me and be transferred to another counselor. Thank you for helping me help you stay safe!

Here are my specialties:

  • Trauma

  • Anxiety

  • Depression

  •  Multicultural Counseling (with focus on considerations for Black and Brown people and their families)

  • Board-Certified TeleMental Health Provider

As an LPC/S candidate, I offer clinical supervision for those seeking their full licensure as a professional counselor in the state of SC. You may contact me directly via phone or email regarding details on this!
